Sometimes what ails us pushes us on a path to discovery—and success. Such is the case for Denver-based Lashology Lash & Beauty Studio owner Erika Gallagher: Suffering from acne throughout her teen and young adult years, she took an intense interest in skin care, eventually deciding to ditch her job in human resources and take her business degree into the skincare world. Then, another swerve in her trajectory: “Upon becoming a licensed esthetician, I took a lash extension course and it just naturally clicked with me!” she says. So much so, she immediately opened a one-room skin and lash studio in Denver, where she doled out affordable lashing services that allowed her to hone her skills for the next stage of her career: opening Lashology Lash & Beauty Studio in 2014. (A second location in Glendale, Colorado, opened last month.)
In the studio, which is outfitted with five lash beds and a pedicure chair for those who seek a little foot beautification, Gallagher’s team of five lash artists do more than serve up extensions; they begin each service with an aromatherapy treatment and head massage. “This creates a stronger connection between the client and the artist, and it allows the client to relax and enjoy herself,” Gallagher says. “We see the lash service as more than just a means to an end, but as an experience itself.” And if that’s not enough, Lashology plays to today’s multitaskers—those clients who desire more than one service at once to maximize their time—with simultaneous lash-pedi-mani services.
Multitasking doesn’t simply apply to the services; Gallagher takes pride in the fact that Lashology also spreads beauty in socially responsible ways. “I feel a duty to give back to my community because I grew up low-income. Due to hard work and the generosity of individuals and organizations, I was able to pull out of poverty and thrive,” she says. In addition to donating a portion of the studio’s proceeds to local nonprofits, Gallagher and the entire staff volunteer one day a quarter at the charities Lashology supports. “The beautiful part is that while serving, we in turn allow those we serve to help us grow in humility, generosity and connections,” she says.
The Vibe: Feminine and cute, with elephants playing a big role in the décor. “They symbolize happiness, good luck, intelligence and longevity ... all things we want in our studio!” Gallagher says.
What We Love: The Lash Lover Membership offers among many perks a “free 10-minute wonky lash removal and replacement” between fills!
Retail Details: Gallagher makes it Lashology’s mission to send (almost) every client home with Chrissanthie Eye Lid Cleanser. “Clean lashes are happy lashes!” she laughs. On her pro website, lashologywholesale.com, lash extension products are available for wholesale to lash pros.
Most Popular Service: Volume Eyelash Extensions. “We charge by the minute, and the price depends on the lash artist’s level,” she says. Prices range between $1.20 and $1.40 a minute; a full Volume lash service takes around 120 to 180 minutes and relashes clock in at 45 to 90 minutes.
